The last few weeks I have been bringing you pictures of department stores decorated for the holidays. Today, I bring you Fortnum & Mason London, one of my favorites.
With little nod to the future, much less to the present, this lovely lady in London is heavenly around the holidays. Huge picnic hampers are on display begging to be sent to someone. Specialities are being served in the restaurants. And the entire store is decorated with magic and fantasy in mind.
Fortnum & Mason London is best known to most people for its teas. I just love all the silver tea strainers! So much nicer than tea bags!
……….beautiful hand made chocolates and pastries……….at the holidays, they are extra special.
The best place to relax after or before shopping is in their Fountain Restaurant. I love going there for a full English breakfast in the morning or for something at lunch. And if I am meeting a friend we often meet upstairs at the St. James Restaurant for high tea. Here's the Christmas lunch menu for the St. James Restaurant:
Scottish Smoked Salmon, Lemon, Watercress & Radish
Tradition Roast Bourbon Red Turkey with all the trimmings
King George Christmas Pudding with Cognac Sauce
Sounds good doesn't it??!!
While the main floor is all about food and tea, the upper floors are for chic shopping for clothes and furniture.
And then, when you go back outside, there is the famous clock, which has eighteen bells that chime every 15 minutes. On the hour, the little doors open and four foot high figures of Mr. Fortnum and Mr. Mason appear. They bow to each other, check standards, turn around and go back inside. Love it! Happy holidays everyone from Fortnum & Mason London!
